    Default First Oystercatcher

Had my eyes opened to a whole new world this weekend shooting with Denise Ippolito at Nickerson Beach. Never shot shorebirds before and I learned a lot. This was the first oystercatcher I've ever even seen.

Canon 5DMKIII 500f4+ 1.4 ISO320, F6.3 @ 1/1250 SEC. Would have liked the bird a little more to the right but did not want to lose the water meeting the sand line running to the corner of the frame.

Looks good to me Joe. Good color, sharp focus, soft background, all make for a fine image.

Congrats on your lifer. These are such amazing birds to see, especially for the first time. Beautiful light and exposure. I might have traded moving the bird to the right a bit, and losing the corner intersection, but that's personal preference.

I really like the crossed legs!
I know you want the diagonal line to start in the corner but I think the image would be much stronger compositionally if you moved the bird to the right of the frame.
You will still have a diagonal line leading the eye in,

Lovely light and pose, and great low angle. Agree with Gail on moving the bird to the right of the frame.

What a stunner, Joe! Amazing colours, so striking, and I love the pose! Lots of detail in the blacks, great BG, sharp where it counts, ticks all the boxes for me

    Kind regards,
