    Default Memorial Day Tribute

This was taken at the Veterans Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. It is very hilly and hard to photograph but I got several shots that I like. I used Nik Color Efex Pro - the Sepia Glow preset and then changed the toning to Blue to create the mood. It's a very humbling experience to go to a veteran's cemetery and realize just how many people gave their lives for their country.

Excellent comp. The coloring gives it that somber, respectful look without resorting the black and white. And the clouds draw the eye upward. Well done.

I like this image a lot Cheryl. The tone and treatment are perfect for the solemn mood you have portrayed. It is so sad to me that mankind has not learned to rise above the terrible act of war as a way to solve differences. Images like this are sad but necessary reminders.

Very nicely done. It's an image that is good because of how it looks and what it says. I agree with Hazel about the uplifting effect of the clouds. It's one of those elements that's both visual and emotional. The slope of the hill works that way, too. Your perspective was very effective, too, in the way the straight lines of markers and the tallest tree nearly divide the frame into thirds. It's particularly fitting that the markers are transformed into groups that echo the shape of the arm patches that show the rank of some non-commissioned officers.

Thanks for mentioning the Sepia Glow recipe. I hadn't looked at the Color Efex recipes in a long time and am glad I did.

This is a stunning presentation, full of emotion and a ghostly feel of departed souls. The graphic & glowing look to the gravestones is phenomenal. You chose a very good view point with the 2 lone trees, dark and standing vigil over the graveyard. This is powerful.

Dramatic. Stark. Perfect mood for a Veterans cemetery. The strong diagonal lines of the stones and the horizon, the triangles formed by the stones and the tree shapes, the muted colors combine to create a strong image.
