OK I'm cheating. The rest of the image was no good but the head and shoulders seems to portray the essence of the Yellow Warbler, so here it is. Several species of warblers have arrived here in Sackville, NB this weekend so it's going to be fun for the next few weeks! Pretty well all I did with the image is crop and sharpen.

    Comments welcome as usual!

Wow this is impressive John. Lovely light and I like the up close and personal view :) The level of detail is excellent too.

I am wandering how much of a crop this is?

    Best,

    Philippe.

Here's the original Philippe. Now you can see why I cropped to a portrait! The 500 F4 and 1.4 tc can really hold the detail if you get everything just right. I'm using a gimbal head on the tripod for the first time (the Mongoose 3.5) and it is really good! It gives you the flexibility to move with the stability to get a sharp image.

It looks pretty good considering the heavy crop. Exposure control and colors look good. I find the chest a bit dark, maybe you could lighten it some.

    Hi John,
That it amazing detail at that crop! Do agree with Axel on lightening some of the shadow a bit.

Nice head shot with excellent detail. Agree with the others about lightening the areas in the shadows. Thanks for posting!

    Hey John,
Nice detail in this crop. I like the polished aluminum look of the beak.
