Default Theme - Only the Young

On this day, when we remember those that gave some or all for our freedoms, we also note that those that were sent to the lines were our young, our finest heroes of the day. They are directed to go by those who sit home and in many cases are too old to fight, but find reasons to. So it is up to the young to find the reasons for standing in battle to face the enemy. They often stand alone and contemplate the coming battle as this soldier, wondering if they will ever leave the foreign soil again to return home to families they left behind. We need to remember their sacrifices and think of them as we enjoy the blessings that we have this day and every day due to their willingness to be there for us.

This image was taken at the Crystal River Civil War reenactment and previously processed in DAP Aquarelle and shown. But I have reworked it for this posting.

Additional modifications in Photoshop and Topaz included; Topaz Simplify Oil Painting; Oil Painting Colorful; Topaz B&W Sepia Tone; PS Oil Paint; and PS Filter Paint Dabs.

Your Memorial Day presentations have been accompanied by very heartfelt text. I see what you are conveying here but the texture appears somewhat too heavy and obscures the soldier quite a bit, especially his face. I would also consider placing the soldier more to the left as he is looking down and could use a bit of space. The sepia is very nice.

Very nice. The attitude of the boy perfectly meets your description. I like how the soldier is isolated in this image. For some reason, the processing, which I didn't care for in a previous image of yours, doesn't bother me as much here.

Hi, Mark, his posture says it all. And your words are truly heartfelt. Thanks for sharing. (I think he's in the middle because it's a theme entry).

Nice pose and image, and your words ring true to me. I had my 21st birthday in a hooch in Vietnam and some of my friends didn't make it home. I'm so glad we have a national holiday to honor their memories. I agree that the texture is a bit strong on the soldier but the overall effect is quite nice. Thanks for posting.

Thanks all for viewing and comments. Appreciate it.

I purposely didn't want to identify the soldier as an individual and therefore wanted his face to be simplified somewhat, as he represents a group, rather than a person. That's why I made the texture heavier, obscuring the facial features.

Anita, maybe the look is just growing on you! I just go for the feeling that comes from the image and see where it takes me. Sometimes it works and sometimes ...
