Default Theme - In the Middle

Sorry I haven't been around much - I've got some outdoor projects that I need to get done before it gets too hot here in sunny Florida. I'm also going back through images and cleaning up my computer. This was taken last year when I first got my Lensbaby. I have a beautiful hornbeam tree in my yard (you've seen it in my disguises over the years) so of course I had to get a Lensbaby shot of it. It was shot at a high ISO so it already had a little grain but I added more in Lightroom and desaturated and tinted in LR and added a vignette also. And of course, the rule of thirds is out the window! I like the mysterious feel to it. I'm thinking about getting all of my hornbeam images together to chronicle its life.

I really like the light and the mood of this image. The lines radiating down and out from the top are strong, and tell of branches and light. This is a magical tree. I would crop some off the bottom. I've mixed feelings about the grain. Let's see what others think. Putting your hornbeam images together sounds like a great project

Like rain falling at dusk. Smiple and peaceful. Like the tone.

Perfect for the theme! The image makes me feel like I'm peeking into an secret, enchanted fairyland and little fairies will start dancing in the glow! I'm fine with the crop as presented, as the light streams downward and needs to continue the visual flow down.

Thanks, Anita, Mitch and Nancy. I think it's a magical tree even without the Lens Baby It's truly my favorite tree on my property (and I've got thousands of trees). Anita, I had tried cropping more from the bottom when I first worked on this and didn't like it but I revisited and I like it with a crop from the bottom.

Nice moody composition, love the Lensbaby setting. The toning works great for the mood and I love the violation of the "rule".

How is it that you have thousands of trees?

Hi Anita, I live on 9 acres, all woods. Thousands might have been an overestimate but probably not. My house is in a small clearing - the rest is thick woods with oaks as well as palm trees. It's lovely.

Lovely! We live on 15 acres, a bit more that half of it wooded. I love the woods and meadows. We are so lucky.

With the light directing the eye up and the shape of the tree and branches directing it down, this image has great visual tension. I like it a lot. It's hard to imagine it without, but I think I like the graininess because of what it adds to the mood and the feeling of fantasy.
