Last of the KF series
Ok, so some like to see the feet, some of you aren't too bothered, but you all seem to like a nice mossy perch, so lets finish the series with this one

In hindsight I could have traded in a stop of shutter speed for aperture, but the tech details are -
Canon 1d3, 400mm f5.6, 1/250th f5.6, ISO 800, cropped from horizontal (from the left to suit, from the right to avoid the end of the perch)

Another beautiful image. I like the pose and the fish, and the water droplets on the breast. The colours - in particular the greens look awry to me, also I think the image is just a little on the bright side (e.g. see end of branch on the rhs and the moss). I think another check at the raw conversion would soon rectify.

Hi Mike, I'd suggest go back to the RAW file and try to recover the blown highlights selectively. The fish and the white piece of the perch were blown. Loi

Beautiful shot of this great looking KF. Nice that it's got a fish. The colors and details look good and the perch and smooth BG make this a real keeper. Wish the fish were turned around but what can ya do.
Well done.

Nice work Mike. Repost much better but can be improved further with good advice from Loi. It's such a good picture it is well worth persevering. Cheers, Ian

I would stay with the original post as the repost looks a bit over saturated but that might be just me. The only thing I believe needs some help is the perch as it is too dry. I usually bring a sprayer with me and use it if
the perch I am using is dehidrated so it improves the look of it.
Other than that, I love the clarity and light you capture in the bird. Also, I would stay with the 2:3 ratio.

Second one much better And can be better with advice given,
Classic King Stuff. ! One minor point. If these birds use a mossy perch it soon wears off !!!

Hi Mike, to me the comp/format works in this instance, although a tad more space all round so the subject can breath would be good but no deal breaker. Nice sharpness and detail, colours are vibrant, yet reflective
I too prefer the OP, taming the Highlights/whites at the RAW stage will be good as you can selectively adjust and you may even add a hint less exposure too. Adding a Midtone adjustment also helps the perch, and offers a softer, yet greater depth to the moss.

Hi Mike, If I had taken this shot I would be very happy. Nice clean background, and the bird is nice and sharp.
