These guys were passing through last week as they head to more northern territories. We usually see them for a few weeks spring migration then the same during fall, and they are always a pleasure to see in the backyard feeding on fallen seeds below the nyger feeder. This one was photographed in between burger flips while BBQing for the family .

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/160s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld (elbows to the ground), just about FF, a blade of grass running in front of the subject removed via content aware and clone tools, some bright spots toned down via burn tool and low-opacity clone tool.

    Daniel:

Excellent eye level view, angle in frame, sense of environment without being overpowered by it.

How did the burgers turn out?

    Cheers

Hope the burgers were as good as the photograph! I love the isolation of the subject with shallow DOF.

The OOF for- and background makes the bird pop very nicely. Great low angle shooting nice detail and pose, Daniel.

Daniel, for me the low angle and the OOF FG and BG makes this image pop. Good job. Loi

Hi Daniel, who said men cannot multi task, great skills deployed here, LOL, hope the beer kept cool too.

Lovely DoF and the FG mush just just adds to the all round encapsulated feel. Great detail, sharpness & clarity as expected. I just wonder if seeing a bit more of the legs/feet may have helped, WDYT? If it was me, I might blend the 'pink' area on the LH trim edge so tree is a uniform green running up on that edge, not sure why, but it catches my eye, or just crop.

Nice one Daniel. Love the low angle, it certainly shows sparrows at their best. Color and detail are superb as always.

He pops nicely from his grassy background. With subjects like this hanging around, it would be easy to overcook the burgers.

Excellent low angle shot with a lot of feather details! Love the way you isolated the subject!

Great job isolating the sparrow. Nice bird placement and comp. I wish the dark blob (leaf?) under the tail wasn't there.
You must like your burgers well-done :)
