    Default Lion Plain

This is an image taken in one of my favourite areas of the Luangwa - Lion Plain is a dramatic open dry area and twice daily large numbers of elephants come across the plain heading to and from the river.

The light is gorgeous later in the year. This is from September last year.

    Thanks for comments.

I'm not out in the park much at the moment because of our baby but hope to be getting some new material soon.

Hi Ed, great to have you back and when time allows participate. Appreciate time & connection is always a premium for you and so commenting on members posts is 'stella', likewise in posting your own images too.

Really like the image, lovely colours and light, simplicity at work in composition, but often the hardest to pull off. The misty BKG adds to the atmosphere and just the right amount of FG mush, doesn't get much better. I feel the trees act as bookmarks, containing the two elephants. Judging on your blog I think we could well be in for a nice treat of images.

Don't worry Ed, we will still be around.

Love the relaxed mood with female and calf, in what looks like the misty distance. Light worked well in your favour.

Hi Ed, two relaxed elephants in their natural habitat. This is a very clean image in beautiful soft light, with beautiful sharp detail on the elephants. The trees contribute in framing the image. The contrast is just right. Luangwa is certainly on my bucket list, and I just love the open plains. Thanks for sharing, well done!

Lovely low angle and that haze-filtered golden light of September in Southern Africa.
Good to have you back as and when responsibilities allow!

Really nice Ed, good symmetry with this pair and I like how you haven't altered the true colour of the Zambian sky and perfectly accurate for this time of year.
One small thing would be to have just a sliver of lower room.

I'll be here (Tafika) for 14 nights next month and will be my first early dry season time here and will look forward to putting on a fleece for the morning drives & walks.
And will be in contrast to a return visit on my 21 nights during suicide month late Oct, same area + Mwaleshi. Perhaps I'll see you @ FlatDogs Ed, I'm there for nights either side?

Ed, lovely image, goergeous light, and I like the composition with much depth added by the far elephant and the distant trees. Loi

Thank you all for suggestions and ideas. I think a little more space below would be good, and I think I have it. I will check though. Glad you all like it as it's one of my recent favourites.

Marc - I am not at Flatdogs anymore, but am freelance working for myself. But give me a shout when you're at FD and I'll come over. I will be doing some time in Nsefu sector in Aug and September on 12 and 9 day photo safaris, but mostly in the southern part rather than up at Tafika. Hope you have a great trip. Luangwa is really into dry season now - cool and very dry with cold nights.

    Ed
