    Hi Ian,
I like your composition hee, but you have a few variables that take away from your image; It would be ideal if you can get a lower shooting angle on your Woody. The head angle is a bit off; and the background is too busy...:D

P.S. The focal point is not on the duck's eye, perhaps with a bit of selective sharpening you can bring it out...

    Thanks Gus.
All good points. Will have another go at sharpening eye.
As picture taken looking down from a bridge could not get a lower viewpoint
I really have to keep moving around for best backgrounds but am learning slowly !!!

Its my pleasure Ian...:) The Wood Duck is my favorite. Just take your time and compose before squeezing. Most of the time it pays off. Oh yes, and watch the sun, you want to capture with the sun at your back...:)

I posted a comment on this one last night.....guess I hit the wrong button. Wood ducks are beautiful. I know that you can't get low for your images where you photograph. I think the BG is too busy for this one....seems to detract a lot from the bird. I don't know if you can get a different BG there but with such a beautiful bird....it's certainly worth a try. I agree with Gus that the point of focus probably is not on the head so a little more sharpening on the head would help. I think that you're learning a lot....and there's a lot to learn so keep at it....you're making progress.

Hi Ian Agree with previous and can add there is a cast in then image !!!

Framing wise I see how it would be appealing the angle you chose but brings all sorts of problems. One big one is the oof highlight in the bg. Strong attention grabbers !!! Do investigate alternatives before going after the bird !!!!!

Woops I should have noticed that bright patch. Thanks Alfred.
Time for me to be more critical before posting.
