Not sure if it fits Out of The Box but I've been wondering why some hawks tilt their heads like this. I've seen this behavior a few other times. Not sure if this was in response to me starting photographing or that something else caught it's attention.

I'd select the lower part of the face that is in the shadows and lift the curve on it to improve it a bit.

Speculating about what causes such behavior: is it possible that they, or at least some, can hear the Ultrasound from the lens motors? Allegedly some dogs are reacting to it...
Hi John, I have seen them do that but am not sure why. When the bob there heads from side to side they are triangulating as they are not good at judging distances.... Perhaps this is a related behavior.

I am pretty sure it is as he started bobbing his head and then slowly tilted it on its side. Thanks for the explanation re the head bobbing. Didn't know about that either. JR
