Been after this shot for a while now. Still room for improvement but fairly pleased. Had to bump the ISO and shoot wide open to get a decent shutter speed.

Cleaned up the water but specifically left the damselfly in shot. Reduced yellow tones from late evening light.

Simon looks like you set yourself a challenge which looks like it's worked very well, the reflection looks great ,pleased you pointed out the Damsel fly had me puzzled for a while, like your image a lot.

    Cheers Keith.

A perfect reflection! Well done. Good techs and PP.
I would evict the damselfly because the viewer can't clearly identify it as a bug so it looks like debris on the water.
I also like the reflection of the waterline on the actual bird and the reflection itself.

Thanks Gail. I agree on the fly. Couldn't decide last night whether it should stay in the image but you're right.

Very special image. The open beak really works. Agree on the fly.

Well done this takes some doing, I guess the task is slightly easier if it is possible to orient yourself so that the bird is coming slightly toward you as opposed to your being at right angles to the path of flight. I like the open bill and the reflection, possibly some whites are a little hot.

Well done overall Simon! I like the "X" formed by the subject and reflection. Yes to removing the insect, and I could see a tighter crop working well here.

    Simon:

Neat image, like the converging lines of the bird and reflection, and wonder if it might be possible to sharpen or enhance the damsel fly enough to make it more apparent what it is? I think it would really add a focal point to the image if it could be done.

    Cheers

    Hello Simon,

This is a super flight shot, and the reflection is just about perfect.

    Very nicely done!
Love the reflexion on water and the nice calm environment.
