    From The Rookery at Smith Oaks, High Island last month. Cloned out a few branches at the bottom; added bit of canvas to the right.

    D7000, 500f4, ISO 800, 1/2500s @ f/7.1 manual, gitzo and mongoose.

    Good one Bill. Like the way the bird sits in the ackdrop and the back has enough detail to see what it is. I like that in a picture. (And as I've said before - you have the right camera !!

    A really nice landing shot but I'd have preferred it either a split second earlier or later to avoid the tree line from going through the subect

    Excellent flight shot, Bill...the BG is very nice and very complimentary too, exposure looks nailed as does the sharpness.

    Bill:

    Interesting pose, sharp, nice angle of body in frame. Head appears turned away a sliver, but may be an optical illusion because of the body turn.

    I appreciate Mike's point about the bg cutting through the body, but the tree line is soft enough that I don't find it objectionable.

    I am really liking this image, Bill. I don't find the BG cutting through the bird at all. In fact, I love the soft feel to the green and the flight pose here.
