This is the saloon at Paramount Ranch. I got to go inside the building when it was "dressed" by the Quick Draw production company (it is usually empty and people are not allowed inside). The show is a series on Hulu. I converted this using Nik Analog FX (one of the wet plate presets) and used a texture I created using render-clouds and the texturizer. The mat frame was part of a bundle of textures I bought.

Nice shot and application, Kerry. Nice lighting, creates the effect of old time western. All you need now is John Wayne and Jimmy Steward walking in on the less desirables!

The combination of monochromatic image with the wet plate effect and dirty stained paper frame really make this look authentically old....nicely done!

like the angles, perspective. Have you thought about a darker frame?

The combination of that mat and Analog FX gives a great look. I like the way you composed the shot. It's framed nicely by the stairs, the wall on the right, and the foreground elements. And the floor boards lead the eye into it. Very nice.

Great composition and processing. The tones and effects are perfect for this scene, giving it an old-timey look. I think the frame detracts from the excellent image.

Thanks everyone! The mat is not a frame, and I don't generally add frames to my images. I wanted it to look like something that you would find in a drawer in your granny's attic. I feel that the mat adds to the antique look.

I stand corrected re. the mat. What about one in colors more similar to those in the image?

Hi Anita, we are on different wavelengths here, as I specifically toned the image so it would contrast with the colors of the mat. Of course there are many interpretations possible for a given image. Here's a version without the mat and toned more toward sepia than platinum. All good ideas and I appreciate your thoughts!

Well, I'm not a specialist in mat colors. The important thing is that you like it!

Kerry, I think that what Anita and I see is not a problem with the mat itself. It does add that old look and is more effective than the photo alone. I think (and I may be putting words in her mouth) that perhaps what we see is a problem with the color. A darker matt would perhaps make the photo pop a bit more. It is, of course, your vision and your choice. I tried a recoloring of the mat to see and am posting it here.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions! Hazel, I like what you did with the mat; it really does make the image stand out more. Thanks!
