    Default Osprey

The egret rookery is at a lull now, as they are apparently sitting on eggs, so I'm branching out to osprey.

    Canon 5D3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4X. ISO 800, f/6.3, 1/2500 sec. HH. This is cropped to 15% of full frame. Taking the 600 next time, although it's a bit of a hike.

    Lovely work Diane!
Excellent eye contact and pose. Nice light and I would suggest to brighten things a tad on the right side of head/face to balance the exposure a tad. Other than that a very special image.

Can do -- I see it's a bit dark there. And I posted the wrong image and can't figure out how to change the title. No nesting material in this one.

If a mod can change the title to just Osprey, that would be good, but no big deal. I'll post the right one tomorrow.

Nice and sharp and a good view of the head.
I wish the far wing was in a more extended position.

One can see the signs of a heavy crop but it's a great shot regardless, Diane! I think a 2x TC will be a lot easier to carry than a 600...

Nice shot, Diane! You did very good with the 2X TC! I really like the eye contact!

    HI Diane,

Can you post the full frame original so that we can see what you mean by a 15% crop?

"This is cropped to 15% of full frame." I.e., the cropped image presented is 15% of the area of the original frame.

IQ takes a hit here, admittedly. Carried the 600 today, and will work with it here in the future, and maybe even with the 1.4X attached. On the Wimberley -- I'm not strong enough to handhold that combo. May try the bare 600 after a few more pushups. But 600-840 is pushing my skills for keeping them in the center -- you can see I didn't manage well in this case, with 420.

Thanks Diane. It stood up pretty well to the huge crop but more pixels for the ORIG would obviously be better
