Taken at a rookery here in Dallas... A couple miles from downtown odly enough. It's been a joy to find this place and visit as often as I can.

    40D & 100-400 @ 250mm, ISO 500, f5 @ 1/4000

Thank you for looking and as always... Comments or suggestions always welcome.

Great breeding plumage, pose, BG and the branch adds to it. Too bad the sun was not behind you.

Steve, Wing position is great but i have to agree with Axel's points.

Fill flash would have opened up the darker areas but it wouldnt be the ideal solution.

Sharp and pretty nice considering the back/side lighting. Subject at the peak of breeding plumage.

Very lovely composition and I love the breeding colors.. The branch is a very nice bonus in this image. Thanks for sharing Steve.

Thank you all for your comments! Will just have to keep trying with different wind and lighting conditions as there are only a few key areas to shoot from here.

I do love watching them though....

I like the glow on the backlit wings. Nice job of holding detail in th eface and the matching angle of the branch and the legs is a plus.
