Wonderful! what a great idea, and great detail -- but don't they sting?

Good sharp image, I am sure they can sting but whenever I have handled bumble bees under similar circumstances they have never stung me.

A very interesting behavioral image, John! Good sharpness and the image tells a story. The pop-up flash is giving you some harsh spectral highlights - you might try carefully cloning them to give the light a softer feel (but an effective diffuser will be the real solution ). You might also try opening up the dark area in front of the eye to see if you can bring out more detail there. This is a cool image and worth a few tweaks to make it even better!
