My first warbler of 2014! One of those rare non-setup images for this family of birds, at least for me. It was rather unwary of my presence and I just followed it best I could through my viewfinder until it landed on a clear perch with a good BG. Needless to say the perch would have been prettier had it been a setup, but I am still satisfied with the result as this is my first good image of a breeding plumaged individual of this species. I'm also happy that all yellow field marks are visible (save the left shoulder)

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, small crop for comp, usual eye work.

    Daniel,
After having spent a few hours the other day trying to get decent warbler images, I really appreciate this one. Nice and sharp and, as you said, with all the markings one wants. The perch works fine for me - the fine quality of the bird pulls the eye away from it anyway. TFS.

great pose and sharp details with a nice BG. I agree with your self critique about the perch.

Excellent shot of the YRW! Love the composition, pose, details and background! It's very hard to get these little guys on a clear perch like this in the wild. But I agree with your self critique that a setup perch with some character would've been better.

Really nice image Daniel. I like that there are no distractions and I like your background. I don't mind the perch but agree a nicer one would make the image even better.

The Warbler more than makes up for the perch, and as already mentioned the BG is very clean, giving great isolation for said Warbler. Good work, Daniel.

Beautiful plumage on this guy and he gave you a nice look-back pose. While not the best perch, this is pretty good for a non-setup shot. Nice of him to perch against a nice bg too.

Very clean and pleasing image. Good HA and pose, clean background, and getting field marks all in one shot is remarkable! Great one Daniel.
