A wild monkey at a local park in Wayanad, Kerala, India. I was testing the 2 X TC III on the new 70-200 2.8 II lens (sold my 100-400). I purposely used a wide open aperture to test the lens.
So far IQ is on par with that lens I think.

Hi Sanjeev - Congrats on the new lens! I think you'll find it is a great lens and versatile too. I like the comp and the look of the monkey. I do think you needed more ss here as the image is a little soft. I'm not sure of the colors as there is a lot of blue and cyan coming through on the shoulders and down.

As sharp as can be around the eyes! So you've used fully open aperture @ 200mm to get to 400mm, which is probably its 'worst' setting as far as IQ demand goes? Not bad at all! Just wondering what IQ would be if you take it on a subject much further away and you crop it in to quite some degree...

    Hi Sanjeev

Tac sharp around eyes, would have liked a bit more DOF to get the mouth in.

Agree with Rachel about the cast...

    Love his haircut!

Can't add much here that's not been said. f8 would have given you a sharp snout but fully understand you were testing out the combo (so you probably tried various aperture settings in any way?)
I would think this combo at f5.6 would be a tad sharper even than the 100-400, which in general isn't as sharp at f5.6 for most copies?

Hi Sanjeev, nice to see you back posting again.

I'm away so I can't offer a huge amount as the MB pro isn't calibrated but...

I might drop the exp a fraction, and add a little mid tone. Just adjusting the basic Module exp, highlights, shadows etc seems to work, then add a Luminosity adj %. I feel the DoF needs to have been more, as the eyes are sharp, but the mouth isn't. If IQ allows then perhaps a slightly tighter crop? I did add some more USM too, perhaps too much????

Sanjeev this is not ideal, but may give a direction?

Thanks Steve & Morkel. Morkel, the 70-200 II+ 2X III may be a tad sharper wide open compared to 100-400 but the combo is heavier but with better IS, so am getting used to hand holding it. The AF was quiet OK for me though and wasn't as slow as I was expecting (at least on the 5D3 it worked just fine). I did try different aperture settings & stopping down did improve sharpness a bit. Steve, your RP shows me how I can improve upon though as posted its a tad crunchy & a bit dark. I appreciate your guidance a lot! Thanks folks for helping me out. I am glad to be back. Could not post much due to lack of opportunity to photograph here.
    cheers,
    sanjeev
