I really don't know what to make of this so any criticism etc would be valued. I suppose I have answered my own question because I am not sure I would print it and put it on my wall but there again I keep looking at it and wondering.

    Canon 7D
    300mm f2.8

    400 iso

Hide, tripod and another ridiculously early start.

Thank you for your comments on my last Dipper photo.

Hi Andrew. You have my vote, I like it very much. Beautiful low angle and perspective. The oof vegetation and complementary background works well in framing the bird. The nice eye contact is riveting. I would be very please to have this image.
    Cheers, Ian

Its lovely Frame. I love the faded effect it has. and just the part that matters is perfectly contrasty. Its sharp where it matters as well. YOu said an early start but the light looks harsh here.. you did well.

The bird looks centered. I would take some of behind the bird. I am not too good at judging noise on my monitor. Others may or may point it out if its there. I personally find the FG and BG ever so slightly grainy.

Darks exposed well whites look slightly hot , I like the sheen on the ail feathers...

Without a shred of doubt I would print it!- And put it on the wall! It's not very often we see good shots of these birds and I love it. I don't know if you can rescue the highlights can you - they are just a bit bright on the tail. The red comb looks good - easy to over saturate but looks good to me.

Ey Up, Andrew...If it were mine, I'd print it too, IMO it is a superb Black Grouse image. All the small nits have been covered by the guys, so no need for me to elaborate further. Top shot, matey.

It's an interesting effect having used the oof FG as a framing tool. Perhaps a tad too much FG at bottom, but overall I think it works.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. The picture was not really planned, the Grouse was "in the wrong place!" but your comments are very encouraging. Being hopeless on computers I cannot work out how to do thank you posts but I really do appreciate your feedback.

    Hi Andrew
Missed this one earlier. I don't like "mush" but this one seems to work
Not too saturated either which is a common fault with these usually shown
    Nice one . I,d keep it .

Hi Andy. Seen plenty of others you have on your wall so add this one to them, I like the mushy bit think it really adds to the image, Very nice shot mate.
