The Common Snipe is probably my favourite species of bird, and whenever I get the chance I always head out to search for them. At this time of year the Snipe are setting up territories and can often be found, sat out in the open, waiting for the lady Snipe to arrive. Here is a shot from the other morning, with a male Common Snipe sat upon his Lichen covered shouting post.

( Small piece of barbed wire removed from the bottom of the image and as it was an overcast morning I have lifted the catch-light a little )
Thanks for looking and thanks for the feedback on my Red Grouse image.

Beautiful! I love the BG and its color, and the perch really sets off the bird with its cool tone. I like that the bird is toward the back of the perch, to offset the visual weight of the beak.
That's a beauty, I like the pose and the perch. The eye looks goo These are very skittish in my experience, did you take the image using the car as a hide?
Yes, the shot was taken from the car. I agree, Snipe can be very skittish, even when approaching in a car, but after much time and effort my slowly, slowly approach is really paying dividends.
Hi Andy, nice to see you on here. Lovely shot, I find these difficult to get right due to the length of beak which for me means either the beak or tail is out of focus but I would be very happy if this were mine.
