"Nature Interpreted" - Photography begins with your mind and eyes, and ends with an image representing your vision and your reality of the captured scene; photography exceeds the camera sensor's limitations. Capturing and Processing landscapes and seascapes allows me to express my vision and reality of Nature.
Red-bellied. Red-headed does not have the white marks on the back and wings.
Yep, Red-bellied. The Red-headed is much more striking IMO with a fully red head and face down to the neck-line, a solid black on the upper half of the back and then solid large wing patches covering the lower half. Believe it or not the Red-bellied has some red on the belly (faintly apparent on your image here).
Certainly not red-headed for reasons mentioned by Daniel. It helps to include location (and date) information. What can be seen is consistent with red-bellied, if this was not in the USA or Canada there are other woodpeckers with red caps and ladder backs that might not be safely eliminated based on this image.
