Pose, perch and BG are very nice. I wish for more eye contact and wider DOF. Did you use flash? I'm not sure how the catch light got there. :)

    Viele Grüße!

this is a good looking little chap. Very nice detail and color. I would be tempted to make a slightly tighter crop to loose the dark right corner.

Lovely background. Composition is good too - mayyy be a very little crop on top to reduce empty space (which would also make the aspect ratio 2:3) would be a good ... ?
And for a ISO 1250, its a pretty clean image.

    regards,

I like the overall feel to the photograph. The pose is good, so is the perch. Maybe a small boost in contrast (not tooo much) to give the image a bit more punch.

Very nice muted BG that compliments the bird very well.

Cute pose, full of personality, although I wish for a little more of the right eye. I think a square crop, eliminating the oof portion of the log on the right would look nice.

    Hi Rose,

What a contrast from your Pied Kingfisher post. I was pleasantly surprised. This is an excellent composition in comparison to the one in Eager to learn forum. Nice even background. The bird is nice, clean and sharp. Nice colors. You might want to try some other crops, as suggested by others too, and see if you can eliminate the OOF portion of the log on the right side. Congratulations on creating a very nice image and thank you for sharing.

Thank you for taking the time and looking at my pictures.
I'll try another crop to eliminate the dark area. Thank you Mohhamed for your honest words. I think I felt so in love with the kingfisher that the feeling, when creating the pictures blinded me somewhat.... ;-))
Of course I have to learn much more to differ between ok pictures and good pictures. And that's want I want: hear your critique and try to make it (and see it) better! Thank you for sharing pictures and knowledge!

I agree with the other nits mentioned. If you are going to put a catch light in his eye, I would move it near the front of the eye.
