Eastern Long-billed Lark - Certhilauda semitorquata

These large, endemic larks have a very distinctive call, which echoes from their rocky habitat. I was lucky to have this one pose for me on my trip to Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve (about 35 minutes south of Johannesburg) this morning. (I used call very briefly to attract this bird from one side of the road to the other (where the light conditions were excellent)

I went for a small crop on this one to show off the habitat and skyline. Look forward to your thoughts?

I like it alot for the perch, BG, light, and perfect head angle. I think you could crop a bit more without losing the original "fell" of the image, and I do wish had perched even higher in the rock to get the feet visible. Strong image image overall though.

Hi Richard, super angled pose, and the Lark is tack sharp. I do like the earthy colours in the overall image together with the splash of sky. The OOF grasses finish the image off nicely.

Great looking image, Richard. Light, perch and setting all work very well.

Hi Richard, Nice exposure, SH, and image design. In an ideal world, we'd see the bird's feet. I like the habitat/reeds except for the light-toned reed that cuts through the bird's head just behind the bill. It would be easy to eliminate that in Photoshop if that fits with your personal ethics.
