Hi Folks, A SLR is too big and heavy for Gina (My lovely child bride 72) to take on her hikes, so she has had every Olympus UZ digicam they make up to her present 18x optical SP-550 UZ. Well, after looking at photos taken by Rose from Australia (aka Birdeye) I was blown away, and got her the same camera Rose uses, Panasonic Lumix FZ50. Came the day before she left for England to climb the 3 highest peaks in Britain in 3 days, so she left it for me to play with. I love it, and here is a photo of a Curve-billed Thrasher sitting on a Cholla Cactus in our garden. A picture is better than a 1000 words! Thanks for looking . . . Gus :D aka Windy

Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ50 Digicam 12X optical
Used Program Mode (Since I'm the thinking camera's man)
Photo taken 5:45 PM with sun just above the west range of mountains
    1/400s, F 7.1
    ISO 100
    Spot Metering
    Auto WB
    420mm equiv

Cropped & resized photo, and though it needed a tad of pop. So I took it to CS3, Curves, Linear contrast & adjusted a point

Hi Gus totally agree with you with the camera. They are good performers if you understand the limitations. Must use low ISO. Another concern is the focal length. You need to support the camera properly, they looks small and compact but need lots of care for sharp images.

Your image looks just great, love the pose bg and perch, could only wish for a little more room to show the plant entirely to the right !! Very appealing image !!!

It's amazing what you can do with a point-n-shoot these days! That image is crisp and well detailed. You got a great head angle and super BG!
