HI folks ,last try for this month theme, i am very impressed about the variation of B/W attempts we have seen here from all our members , well done guys i loved it…………..

I just throw a captive Brown Bear in taken at my Zoo, this guy went to his forefathers some weeks ago , was quite old. He was a subspecies from Kodiak Island , a very BIG guy.We still have an old one in our Zoo but not as nice looking as him, sooner or later he can roam together with our wolves in one large enclosure , a new project starts.

    F 8 ; Iso 3200 ; 1/500 sec

    Full frame

Processed in Photo Ninja and PS CC ; conversion with a B/W script , just tried this out , basically some small toning is applied .

    C&C welcome , as always .

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas - Nice one. I like the frame filling comp and the toning looks good with nice detail and sharpness. Sorry to hear of his demise though.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Love the soulful look on this majestic Kodiak, with good detail and placement in the frame.
Seems you are getting in 2 themes for the price of one, with next months theme being captive.

Hi Andreas, these guys are awesome & big, especially in Kodiak, a real spectacle.

I quite like the framing & even the more 'darker' approach, but I do think sharpness is lacking. Great to hear he will soon be roaming with other animals he originally lived with.

    Hi Andreas

The POV really emphasises his size.

    Love the eye contact.

    Toning works well.

Wouldn't like to meet him while on foot on any Island...

    Hello Andreas,

And sorry to learn of this old chap's passing, he certainly was handsome and I love that expression you captured, especially the eyes and the mouth slightly open. I guess the coarse fur shows his age, as well as his white eyebrows...

I agree with you about the April Theme, we all learnt a lot about B/W processing and toning etc. Some stunning images I wish I could keep for reference. Great advice and comments from everyone and we all gained some experience, therefore a big Thank You to the moderators.

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
