    Default Northern Flicker.

A couple of summers ago we had a significant forest fire in Ottawa...this Northern Flicker is perched atop one of the remnants of that fire, with plenty more charred remains behind me at the time of capture. That particular patch of forest is slowly rejuvenating quite nicely but lots of reminders will remain standing for a long time to come...

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/8, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, just about FF, usual eye work, some perch clean up. Audio used.

Beautiful bird, background and an interesting perch, Daniel. Well done.
This bird is so skittish that it takes exceptional luck or exceptional skills to approach one.

Wow, what an awesome species! I quite like the burnt stump as well - it tells a story. Great BG as well - very nice!

Hi Dan, cracking image, but for me what I do really like is the perch and the way he chest plumage ties in, mad I know!!!

Again, another clean, yet simple BKG leaving the viewer only required to enjoy the image.

A fine look at this handsome male. Great bg and pose, and it's nice to get the yellow in the tail showing so well.

Hi Dan, I like the vertical comp, it suits the pose nicely. I really like the overall detail and colours on the Flicker, together with the smooth BG.

Perfect as always. I especially like the fact that this image speaks about the history of the place it was taken. The exposure is perfect and the details are very nice in all part of the plumage. Respect to you, Dan!
