    Default Turnstone in flight

I was out this morning along the shoreline, the weather was dull and it felt like a winters day instead of springtime. I managed to capture the attached Turnstones. Thanks for having a look, and all advice greatly appreciated.

these are tough to get in flight and you got three, they all have good wing position. the image quality is lacking though, maybe too much cropping, the front bird appears OOF and the mud in the btm is a bit distracting.

    William:

Great mix of poses, not easy to capture! Agree with Arash about the IQ, and would consider a slightly looser crop to downplay that if it works compositionally.

I don't mind the shoreline but would consider toning down the luminosity and contrast just a bit to reduce its impact on the birds.

Well caught my first impression is that the darks are a little heavy, I try not to read previous comments but would agree perhaps the contrast is a little high. I like the shoreline inclusion - we tend to see things slightly differently this side of the Atlantic, I can see why some regard it as a distraction but for me it adds context, if the bird were just against the sea I think the image would have had less rather than more impact.

    William:

I think you did well with your starting point. A substantial crop, plus adding the canvas. Thanks for showing your source material!

I think the issue is focus not cropping. the birds are way off center which explains why they are OOF/soft. Unfortunately a soft RAW has no cure
