    A New Zealand endemic with a wing span of about 2.1 m. The birds breed on sub-tropical and sub-Antarctic islands. The feeding range is from S.E. Australian pelagic waters to Chile and Peru. The image was captured on 1 January 2014 in the Snares Is group, NZ sub-Antarctic. Critical feedback welcome. Thanks for looking.
    Canon 5DIII + 300 mm f/2.8L II + 2x III extender, hand-held.
    Av priority, f/8, 1/2500 sec, ISO 800, EC -1/3 EV.
    Processed in DPP: crop, adjust brightness (+0.17), shad/h'lights, USM, RAW-tiff. PS Elements: downsize tiff-output jpeg, USM.

    A very effective image, with nice colors, that particularly soft smooth look to the plumage on head and neck, the birds banking pose and angle towards us. All good.
    Well composed. The degree of out of focus of the water is just right.

    Hi Ian, great 3D effect in this, and I like the banking angle. Love the splash of yellow on the beak, and nicely separated from the water BG.
