This portrait is the full-body, simple-background, ultra-close profile that I envisioned and that I worked for more than an hour on. I'll be pleased to include it in the photographic field guide to the birds of China that I'm working on. Nikon D3S, 600 mm + 1.4x TC, F/11, 1/320, ISO 1000.

Love the low angle and all the amazing details in the feathers and the feet. Looks as though this image will make a super addition to your field guide.

    Beautiful bird indeed!

I like the low angle, profile pose, details. The ground is a tad bright IMO, but I can see how this will make a nice addition to your field guide!
P.S. I like the write-up you did about this photo over on FB.

Things from this forum have stuck with me over the years, such as Artie talking about how thin your depth of field can be, esp. when the bird comes in close. This bunting, full of testosterone as he searches for a mate, had lost his fear of me and was coming in close. I thought f/11 would give me just enuf DOF, if he'd only stand in profile. I'm happy with the balance I struck among aperture, speed, and ISO.

Thanks for liking my philosophical-scientific writeup on FB.
