Karl, when I think of a RWBB ... this is it. I mean it just doesn't get any more accurate than this. You've got the patch of red showing perfectly and the detail in the blacks is superb!

Karl it looks like a top class painting, not a clue what the BG might be but it really does lift your bird, great stuff.

    Thanks Keith, thank you all.
I should have said that the background was the dry reed left from last year over this marshy area.
I cloned out only one OOF stalk in front of the bird. The rest was further away, hence the smoothness of the BG.

I just photographed some of these guys recently too, in a similar habitat! Nice image, good pose, well balanced comp. I wonder if more details in the face could be pulled out without introducing unwanted artifacts...

Hi Karl, I like the colours in this with the well exposed darks of the bird against the creamy colour of the BG.

really appreciate the detail in the blacks, I have a bird I see often, Phainopepla, and am challenged to get this much detail of this all black bird.

Very nice RWBB frame Karl. Not that easy to get right. I have lots of them in my area but we find it difficult to get them in the right light and angle. This one looks really nice and I like the cattail perch. Well done Karl
