    Yellow Hammer at woodland pool.
There has certainly been a drop in numbers of these this year. The pool is interesting just now as thre migrants come in and the fresh spring leaves give a nice green reflection from above.

John, you have such a wonderful location for your bird shots. I envy you. The yellow hammer is beautiful and the setting is gorgeous...Terry Johnson

I really like the colours of the bird and BG. Excellent detail. If it were mine I might clean up the eye a little but a nice job overall.

Hi John, you have really brought out the feather detail so well, and love looking at the various layers of feathers. Lovely colours, and I do like the texture of the water.

    One of your best.

    Thanks all. Appreciated.
I have to admit I sometimes just sit there in the cramped little hide just watching the colours change as the sun moves around and comes through different gaps in the canopy. The ripples the birds make helps too.

Very nice John - the water gives the image a soft dreamy feel and the great colours on the bird are complemented by the BG colours

    Thanks all
I see I got the wrong camera. Its the D7100 not the D7000. There certainly seems to be a difference. There was talk of possible moire problems with the camera having no anti aliasing / low pass filter but it seems to be ok. The Nikor 70-300 stuck on the front makes an awesome combo for bird feather detail.

Another nice image John. I wouldn't change anything.
It's really good to see nice images are achievable with more standard lenses and it shows it is not always the equipment that makes the difference. Is it the AFS VR or non VR AF version of the lens you use?

The subject is very cute and I love the tail resting on the water surface as well as the perfect head angle, but its the texture of the water that shines here. Super nice image!
