    Default CormorAAAH

Clicked in April 2014, this is a Double-crested Cormorant with very well developed crests, somewhat like Jim Carrey in Lemony Snicket's It was about 100 yards away and since this was the first time I saw the crests on this species, I was shooting a lot of frames with my manual focus lens in the hopes of getting at least one that would be sharp enough.

It was only while reviewing in Lightroom today that I noticed this shot and so I do not know what it was that attracted the cormorant's attention. I am quite surprised with the blue in the cormorant's throat and this makes this image interesting to me. The bird is very small in the frame, so the composition here is after the fact with saturation and white balance altered in Lightroom.

Interesting juxtaposition of the look up and the rather unique OF BG. Maybe it is yawning? Or some sort of mating display?

This might be a good one to try a strong edge vignette.

Unusual view of the inside of the mouth showing that lovely blue color. Have you considered cropping it more? I like Diane's suggestion of a vignette. Thanks for posting.

Hi, Nikhil, I like the small in the frame presentation and I love the unusual pose! Thanks for posting.
