    Default Kestrel

    Attached Images Attached Images

    Canon 5D Mkiii
    Canon F/2.8 300mm with 1x4TCiii
    f/8
    1/2500
    ISO 800

I was eager to try out the focusing system on my new 5D, I returned to the castle, where I had been photographing a pair of kestrels, where I knew I had a good chance of capturing a kestrel in flight. I captured the attached image, and was very impressed by the tracking system on the 5D, compared to my 7D. Considering the bird was travelling at a fair speed and was close to the similar coloured background, I was able to track the bird well, even though i was on f/8, and had my 1x4 attached

Thanks for having a look and any advice as always, is greatly appreciated.

Looks like a good effort to me William. Nice eye contact and even though the under side is in shade, you have still captured some nice feather detail. I also like the sympathetic background in harmony with the colour tones of the bird.
    Regards, Ian

Well caught William nicely detailed and exposed.
(Your focusing lens aperture with 1.4TC will be f2.8 minus 1 stop = f4, your actual exposure aperture occurs when the lens is stopped down and shutter fires)

Nice flight shot, not easy to catch such a fast bird. The bg, however, doesn't seem very realistic? What is it? Did you do anything to the bg?

Very well caught flight shot for a bird such as a kestrel
Excellent work. The darker lines in the back drag the eye a bit but no big deal.
    Cheers

Never touched the BG, Its a castle wall. Maybe that effect on the BG occured due to me following the bird with the camera ?
