My main goal this spring was to get a good woody flight shot. Canon 5DMKIII 500f4 1.4 extender, iso800,f6.3@ 1000sec

Congrats on getting the shot you aimed for! You nailed the focus here! I really like the composition and colors! If it's still around, I would try to get some more shots after pumping up the ISO to 1600 to freeze the wings as 5D Mark III's ISO performance is awesome! May be you have more to come...

Wonderful focus on the eyes! The motion/OOF blur in the wings adds to the dynamic nature of the shot.

What would you think of a crop from the bottom, about halfway to the bird, or darkening that area with a gradient?

Great sharpness and nice eye contact. I don't mind the wing blur at all. I prefer the wings to be full up or full down, and I'm not crazy about the OOF vertical lines.

A well captured image Joe. I like the sharp head and don't mind the blurred wings. I agree with Diane about maybe cropping more from the bottom.

Doug has nailed it for me as I had the same thoughts. Nice colours throughout!

This is a fine image. I am really liking the motion of the wings against the sharp head, and how the wings appear to be framing your duck's head. While it may detract to some and maybe even at first to me, I find the BG works well colorwise with your duck and is quite unique. I do like the way the bird is angled slightly toward the viewer.

I like the forward head position and determined look.
