    A Bar-tailed Godwit in non-breeding plumage nicely fattened up ready for imminent departure on its marathon flight from Merimbula beach (SE Australia) to breeding grounds in Alaska/Siberia.

    Canon 1Dx, 500f/4L IS II + 1.4x, 1/1250s, f/5.6, ISO 800, manual exposure, Mongoose 3.6 mounted on a skimmer
    minor crop for composition

    Really like the simplicity and the relaxed pose of this shot, Australia to Alaska that is some long haul flight

    very nice capture,love the pastel BG,the pose is ery nice with the raised foot,sharp with good detail.

    I'd take a nice long nap if I had to fly from Australia to Alaska, even on a supersonic jet! Like the sleeping pose, but am unsure about the downhill slope of the sand.
