    Hi folks ,
too many color images for this month so far , so i throw another toned B/W in.
Two young bulls play fighting ? somewhere in Africa ?
Shooting angle wasn`t ideal , i took the shot while staying slightly above them on an elevated road .Taken quite a few years ago and IQ is not as per today`s standard, but i like the pose of these guys and i thought well get a B/W processed .

    Canon EOS 1D MK II
    EF 500 IS L
    Beanbag on car window

F 6,3 ; ISO 100 ; 1/400 sec , should have gone higher with Iso to get more SS.

Processed in Photo Ninja and PS CC , used B/W styler 1.05 for the conversion and the toning , which is Silver Gelantin .

Hope you like it , tell me your thoughts about this one.

Anybody who has not seen my other B/W thread in Avian look for "shoe Bill in B/W"

    Cheers Andreas

HI Andreas, I like it a lot. The toned B&W works so well with the rhinos and I thought the IQ is quite good too. I'm debating whether the bright area above the rhins is too bright, but at the end I think it shows the darker rhinos well. I like the dust and the locked horns. It was play fighting as you said and the pose does look that way, not a life and death battle. Loi

Love the interlocking pose here Andreas, with the tone in this conversion suiting well.

Wondering why the rhino on the left doesn't have the same detail as the other from the head back being on the same focal plane?
Also the HK BG is just a little too bright and was the first thing that caught my eye, would be tempted to reduce that somewhat for mine.

Hi Loi and Marc thanks for your comments appreciate your words and suggestions.
Marc - easy to say why the left rhino has less detail, due to slow SS for that action he is just simply slightly blurred . The right rhino was not moving that much at the time of capture , the left rhino approached the one on the right, hope this does make sense to you ? .
I did want to overcome that by more sharpening. And i used a slight Orton Lights adjustment from Tony Kuyper on the image, which maybe made the softness worse in this case.

Regarding the BKG i was also thinking the way you think , but i decided to stay with this path..

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas - This works very well. I like the comp and the action. The dust adds to the image. The toning is nice though I too would look at reducing the brightest part above the rhinos. You brought out good textures.

Very original image, and resembling one of those old photographs I always look at when I visit the Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Reserve, taken many moons ago. Have you by any chance thought of trying a Sepia, Andreas? Sepia makes me think of something from the past, unfortunately the numbers of Rhino here are declining and they are slowly becoming a "thing of the past"...

    Warmest regards,

    Hi Andreas

The tone works, can see the slow S/S on left boy's front foot.

Did you do any D&B on their bodies?

Like Gabriela said: Reminds me of the Rhino images at Hilltop with Ian Player...

    PS: struggling with Dan Margulis...

Great action to witness! I like the texture you achieved, would perhaps crop somewhat from the LHS, Andreas, for more symmetry (equal length of rhino body showing either side). I would "desaturate" the toning very slightly too, personal taste though...
