Male Siskin at the pool. Most of these have moved on now but a few still around.
The males are georgeous when like this one they come into colour. very tame at 6 foot from the hide too.

You've captured a lovely image of a really nice bird John. I can't fault it.
I'd be interested to know how many different species you have had at you pool. Your images will soon be a replacement for my British birds book.
Thanks all . Appreciated.
Ian- Good question. Ive just spent half an hour working it out. I had three pools One in the forest here which has been there over thirty years, One on the edge of farmland which was there for15 years and one in a sand quarry which was there about 5 years. Last year the quarry pool was filled in by the quarry people (they needed the room ) and the farm poolwas ploughed up when they renovated the land back to arable after being quarried some years back. However the farmer has dug me a new pool on the farm land which has gone back to his ownership, and I will be using the hide for the first time this week all being well. Should be OK as its on the main migration route down the River Severn nearby. The woodland hide (old faithful) is still there. Pool is fine but the hide needs a little care and attention.
Any way-Species from woodland hide - 43 so far. add another 17 different ones from the farm and that makes a total of 60. The one that took it to 60 was a Mealy redpoll two days ago !! Still a few to go !!

Wonderful and informative story, John.
Spectacular image of beautiful bird with lovely pleasant yellows. Nice sharp ness.
This year in winter I am going to try to develop pools in the farm in front of my house, lets try.
Thanks all

I love pool photography - mainly because you never know what will come, and also you can photograph the same birds over and over and every one is different.
