Hi Martin - The very dramatic sky just draws one in. I find it taking the spotlight away from the giraffes which seem a little bright. Also the shooting angle makes the sky more at eye level than the giraffes so again my eye is drawn to the sky. I think it needs a little ccw rotation as the giraffes seem to be leaning slightly. If it were mine I would back off on the sharpening. The brush looks a little crunchy. Also the 2 oof branches sticking up at the bottom of the frame draw the eye, not sure how you feel about cloning. I'd like to see the color version of this one.
Agree with Rachel that this might be more suitable in a colour version here Martin, nonetheless the sky is nice and dramatic.
Was this taken from a balloon early morning?
I like what you were trying to do, Martin - but yes the POV and combined toning makes me think the colour version would look better - mind posting it here in the thread for comparison? The giraffes are just not visible enough for me at first glance...
Interesting image and it got me thinking, I like the sky a lot but at the same time I feel the giraffe are positioned a tad too low in the frame. I am also interested to see the colour version, if not too much trouble
Lots of potential in this one - also curious to see the color version. My first thought was that it needs a tilt a little to the left (or ccw as Rachel says), based on the giraffes' stance.
Thanks everyone for the comments.
The reason i went for B+W was to try and highlight the clouds rather than the giraffes, I also though the colour version had too much space between the giraffes and the clouds.
anyhow, here is a colour version as requested.
