This is a bird I have wanted to see for years, missing it in the usual migratory hotspots. In Marion I had heard rumors about studies done in the southern part of the county by several colleges looking for a threatned bird. I searched the internet and turned up several studies by PHD students done in southern Marion Co, SC. The primary focus was the Swainson's Warbler, so this spured my interest. I have managed to find at least 10 singing males in two preserved tracts of land totaling about40,000 acres. This was on a limited search since I was doing photography. I have attached a singing bird with beautiful wash of yellow on its breast. Most were duller than this bird and many were banded. The throat still needs a little more work close to losing detail. Sorry about the file size, but having problems. Since Ill be gone for several days and then a month decided to go ahead and post since it is getting late.
Great singing pose here Charles! This bird would benefit from a tad more sharpening and possibly a contrast boost IMO. It's also a little tight in the frame at the bottom, and there is perhaps too much room up top. I wonder if a horizontal crop would work here.
Charles
Congrats on fantastic warbler and your persistence. I met you several years ago at Magee and saw some of Brian's images this spring. Given the difficulty of getting this species.....and getting one up and singing makes this one very near and dear to me. Perhaps more room.....but wow.....I'm in awe.
Thanks for the comments and advice. I looked at a horizontal crop but it didnt look quite right with the acute angle of the bird. Will take another look . Also could give it more room except for the tail area ,where I would have to do a digital extension. I am not a big fan of imaginary pixels but that may change as I look at other peoples application.
Sharpening subject-I am always afraid of over sharpening so I usually err on minimal side, but perhaps I will learn what other people see.
So Brian already showing his pics ? Wish him well and wish I was on Lake Erie right now.
