Default Mt. Goat in the fog

I loved photographing these Mt. Goats in the fog. It made them fade in and out of view as well as obscuring the rocky cliffs they roam about on. At times they seemed as ghosts wearing shaggy robes doomed to wander the misty crags.

Just a low opacity layer of fractalius, letting the real fog doing its foggy thing. BTW, it is always cold up at 12,000 ft + where these goats roam, and the fog made it even colder.

Nancy, this is a fantastic portrait with a serene, remote feeling about it. I really like the detail you've maintained given the flat light and cold temperatures (shivering tends to adversely affect IQ!), the tones on the MG blend in well with the surrounding rock. The fractalius almost looks like vines or lichen spreading about the stones. This really is quite nice.

Agree with above, awesome. Love the effects and composition. Fractilius on background rocks.

    Nancy,

Greetings. What a great portrait. I particularly like the out of the corner look in the eye and the detail in the fur. I find the fractilius on the bg rocks to be a bit distracting (I'm not a fan of the coarser fractillus look, so maybe it's just me). The color is also particularly cool... I'm partial to the red-white color contrast that is employed well here. Thanks for posting,

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Thanks all! My hopeful interpretation for the fractalius effect on the rocks was that it was fingers of fog creeping along !

That image rocks (pun intended)!! Nice composition and processing although I agree with Michael about the fract effect on the rocks might be a tad strong in the LR corner rock.

Thanks Judy! I'll see what I can do about that rock. Funny how when something like that finally catches your eye, you can't not see it anymore!

Nice Nancy! My first thought when seeing this image was "cold!" I like the Fractalius, it gives the image a "creeping" feel. I have spent some time at those elevations and I know what you mean about the cold!

Wonderful image. Great composition. Love the position, shagginess and clarity of the mountain goat. (I do envy you your hiking locations!) The goat commands attention here. I like the bg fog. I see what you were after re. fingers of fog creeping in, but, it wasn't what I thought of. I, too, found the fractalius a bit distracting. Have you considered cropping out the rock in LR corner?

Nancy, I love this image! I really like the fractalius on the rocks - I like the contrast of the wispy effect on the rocks and the sharper image of the goat. I'd probably take out the one little orange leaf below the goat. It looks COLD!!!!!
