Default Suggestions for Flash set up for Nikon (D7000 or D600)

I want to buy a flash set up with 3 to 4 flashes for the following uses and I don't know anything about them. I don't want the very top end equipment, but I don't want bottom end either. Please suggest what you think would work the best.

    Intended Uses:

Bird photography with subjects out to 10 yards - daytime use.

Night photography within 5 - 10 yards. Will be used with wildlife set ups and a photo trap.

Wildlife studio work such as flowers and insects.

    Thank you for your help.

I don't know the Nikon flash units, but for syncing off-camera units, unless they have built-in radio sync, you might have a look at the Micro Sync. It's not as pro level as the pocket wizard, but does a good basic job over good distances and through obstacles. There is a very slight lag time; I don't know how the Pocket Wizard compares.

For my D7000 I use an SB-800 on the camera. I also bought five used SB-26's on ebay, which serve as optical slaves triggered by the SB-800. It works very well and was relatively inexpensive.

Optical slaves can work in many circumstances, but only work when oriented within the arc of the IR beam emitted by the master unit, and only if the receptor sensors on the slave units are not blinded by ambient light,
