    Default Giant Moray

I thought I might as well enter this months theme, so here's a shot of a Giant Moray

These are surprisingly approachable animals provided you take your time, this was taken about 50cm from the eel. He was happy enough with this, but I stayed at this distance for sake of the composition

Hi Mike - those teeth look sharp, I'd keep my distance for that reason. Another nice underwater image. I wondered what it would look like with a bit more pop so I took it into PS, applied a linear contrast curves adjustment, a luminosity mask to tame the highlights at 30% and then another round of selective sharpening. Not sure if this is off-base but thought I'd give it a try. WDYT? I would prefer a bit more room below but understand how difficult it can be to compose with currents, etc. Thanks for participating in this month's theme.

    Rachel

    Hi Mike ,
another great UW shot i think , and it fits well in the row of tight predator portraits.
Like the overall composition and the detail in the moray skin. Colors are very nice as we can see in Rachel`s RP .The BG is too contrasty for my liking , i would back off on the contrast or even really darken it down.

Good that you started to post your UW stuff here.

Well done, Mike! High time I 'got under' again! Rachel has done a few good things with it...

Thanks for looking and commenting everyone. The re-post adds a little extra which works well, but what I should have done at the time of shooting was to turn the strobe on my left down in power and turned it to face inwards. That would have naturally darkened the background. Still, you live and learn!
