    These guys have been historically tough for me but I've been having some success with them lately. This guy chose a nice perch for me, loved the simple repeating patterns. Taken at the local botanical gardens, not a set-up.

    Handheld as always.

    Canon 50D, 500 f/4
    1/500 sec, f/4, ISO 640

    Even though the bird is central the composition of this shot really appeals to me, cobwebs on the plant, and a cracking looking bird, on a classic BG,great to view.

    This is one of those very nicely balanced shots - the perch is very nice, lovely bird, and whilst the subject is a little central, there is plenty of negative space to make things work well

    very nice Aidan, I like the nice perch and creamy green BG the hummer is nice and the colors stand out. you can post up to 1200 pixels wide BTW, to show the details better

    Hi Aidan, love the little guy, placement works fine to suit the perch, and I do like the orange iridescence.

    Thanks all! The reason I post at this size is because my laptop has a tiny screen; if I go much bigger I can't fit the whole image in my browser window.
