They're back!!! I think I'm the only photographer up here that I know of that is excited to see the RBGs back at this time of year with their beautiful breeding plumage (or see them at any time really). When I saw they were back I made it a point to go back to a certain location with a few pieces of bread with the intention of creating portraits...something I do every spring with guys (if "spring" can even just show up this year!!). A lady actual seemed quite bemused to see me so concentrated tossing bread to gulls mere feet away from me with a big lens to my face. The unrelenting winter did provide with some fun snowflakes to sprinkle around the image though...

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1250s., f/9, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, FF, two snowflakes too close to the subject moved to an alternate location, S/H at 15% to the highlights.

I like the HA, sharpness, details, exposure control, complimentary BG and falling snow. I here you regarding the relentless winter! Excellent image Daniel.

Excellent portrait. Love the color that the eye ring, eye and beak add to the image. Excellent IQ as always.

Leave it to you to put this over the top with a beautiful gray background and falling snow. Perfect.

Wow, Daniel this portrait shows so much details and exposure could not be any better. Love the yellow eye and clear composition.

Looks like a perfect portrait to me. The detail in feathers is great and the snow in the background really adds to it imo.

Love how the orbital ring pops against the subdued grays and whites of the rest of the frame. The falling snow adds a lot to the overall feel of the image.

Super portrait Daniel - the eye contact makes this I reckon, and the snow adds interest

I like it Daniel, your image makes me want to get close to some of our Ring-bills down here.

Very nice artistic shot Daniel! The pose and orange eye-ring is what does it for me!

It is so hard to make a gull picture appealing but you did it!
The snow and perfect exposure are what make this image.
The perfect HA doesn't hurt either! I also really like the exact gray match in the BG and feathers.
