Would be interested to hear your views on the brightness of this. Been playing with monitor settings
I'm usually a big fan of getting down to eye level when I can, but I have to say that this is almost the "perfect" angle for this shot. You've got great detail throughout the bird, but the rocks under the water make this for me. It's almost like you had a polarizer on.
Brightness looks good for me. The only thing I would do is remove the green portion on the bottom left of the image. Not sure what it is.
Thanks both.
Miguel- yes I'v e tried many angles over the years with my pool photography and always come back to this compromise. It helps to minimise reflections, and helps with depth of field when the bird is back on with head turned looking back. If you are lower down, then a bird the size of a sparrow with its back to you at 8 foot away needs a lot of Depth to get it all in focus!!!- impossible in fact.

Once again, I must say that the IQ and detail you are getting with the 70-300 is remarkable John. You certainly have mastered that lens which I also own and can't get anywhere near as good detailed images.
Hi Rob
I must admit my stuff appears to be having more IQ lately but it only seems since I got the lens and also the camera(D7100) at about the same time. It is sometimes too sharp and I have to knock it down a notch in the camera. ! I must admit for a setup costing several thousands less than many use, its not too bad.

I've gotten way behind in Avian and scrambling to just see everything. But have to say your monitor is spot on! You are getting incredible sharpness and detail, too!
Do I gather from your comment about sharpness in camera that you are shooting JPEG? Just curious. Whatever you're doing, it works!
