I'm sure I could have gotten closer if I wanted to, but I'm not sure it would have bought me much more! These guys are relatively tame in La Jolla, CA. Taken on a bright sunny morning on my recent trip.

Miguel, what can I say, another stunner from you.
Looks like an amazing place to visit. Jack Rogers from FL just came back with tons of amazing images also.

Perfect head angle, super sharpness, and a good choice of aperture. That breeding plumage is fantastic!

I echo the previous comments. The eye looks like a jewel surrounded by diamonds.

This is an absolutely killer portrait. The only thing I might suggest is reducing the brightness a tad, esp on the lower mandible.

    This is really nice Miguel.
The pattern on the bill is really interesting and the blue green iris makes me think of aerial images of the seas around Fiji or Tahiti.
IQ rocks as do the colors,
    Gail

Fantastic close up Miguel!! Exposure and details are spot on. For someone from Florida to say that birds at another location are tame must mean there is truth to it!!

    Truly Stunning Miguel!

I have been trying to get this bird with the "crest"/ breeding plumage for years now...but I am never in the area that time of the year. what beautiful colors and amazing details.

f9 works perfectly... covers you enough up close...
