Wide Angle zoom lens for Canon
Hello. I have the Canon 10-22 for APS-C and a Rokinon 14/2.8 for full-frame (Canon 6D).
Now I'm in a situation that when traveling I'd like to keep the gear to a minimum.
So I'm considering a wide angle zoom lens for FF. Choice would be the Canon 17-40L but corner sharpness are not that great.
With current Tokina prices, I'm considering them more and more.
Here are the B&H prices:
Canon 17-40/4 L - $832
Tokina 17-35/4 - $489
Tokina 16-28/2.8 -$629
Since I don't live in the USA, I don't get any of the mail-in rebates.
Each lens has its advantages and disadvantages. I compared the MFT charts and read some reviews. Main use would be landscape photography.
Canon 17-40/4L - sharpest at center, lightweight. Expensive now, weak borders.
Tokina 17-35/4 - Cheapest. 82mm filters. Mixed reviews.
Tokina 16-28/2.8 - Heavy. 2.8. Best 16,,
Travel kit would be: Canon 6D, 24-105/4L, 70-200/4L IS or 70-300/IS and the wide angle lens.
Suggestions are welcomed.
Thank you.

Hi Fabio.
I talked to a nature photographer before purchasing my wide angle. All of his shots are with a 6D and Tokina 16-28:

I then did a lot of reading between the Canon 17-40 and the Tokina 16-28. I got the Tokina bc it's less expensive and gives me f/2.8 (important for Milky Way shots). It's definitely not a light lens, but it's quite sharp.

I think I'll go with the 16-28/2.8. Do you use filters with it ?
And what about the dust ? Is the front element sealed ?
Thank you.

Hey Fabio,
I haven't used filters with it (it doesn't allow for screw on type filters). There are several DIY threads online on how to make your own filter holder for Cokin style filters. They are pretty easy to set up, you just need the lens cap and a step up ring. It's pretty neat!
I believe that the front element is sealed. I bought mine used (From a rental company) and it's very clean.

Thank you for the reply. I believe that I could cut off the front of the lens cap, put a step-up ring glued to the rest of the lens cap, and that would attach to a Cokin filter and the filter holder (which I already have).
Do you have the diameter of the lens where I would put the setp-up ring ? I have Cokin's 77mm and 86mm filter adapters. Mine is the Z-pro.
I found 1 or 2 DIY tutorials but it seems more complex than this.
Thank you.
