I would like to share this image of an European Greenfinch (Carduelis chloris) with you. I call it 2.5m because this is the distance between us. I shoot this at my feeder last summer with my budget Telezoom the Tamron 200-500 and my D300. One of the things I like is the minimum focussing distance with these budget zooms.
A handsome portrait of this goldfinch. IQ looks very nice; can't complain about the "budget zoom". I'd be tempted to brighten the eye and surroundings just a bit, and crop up a few mm from the bottom to eliminate the bright white blur at the bird's breast.
I agree with you to clean up the line and adjust the crop. But I leave the bill dirty ... it belongs to the bird. When brighten up the eye much more the IQ in that part goes unusable.
Many thanks for your comments.
