There are always Coots at Henderson Bird Preserve and I've been watching them and trying to capture their behaviors and life-cycle since last year. Here is a shot I took earlier this week; it's a big crop (I seriously need a bigger lens!) Is that a face only a mother could love? The chicks are so ugly they're cute but they'll lose that red/orange color in adolescence.
Canon 40D, f5.6; 1/800; ISO 500; 100-400 at 400 on tripod (very windy that day)
.... yea but look at the tender look the mom is giving the chick !!!!
Image looks fine Katie. That is were they live. Exposure was controlled well and did get some detail in the blacks. Might want the baby with a little separation form the mother, Good crop and placement in frame ...... just need more glass :) !!!!
Pea green with envy!!!! I love Coots and have always wanted to see a Coot chick!!! Love the look mom is giving tot, and the habitat too..Always need longer glass:)
