The actual timing of the shot is fantastic, and I can see it is going to split opinion on the framing and composition. For me, sometimes the strength of the image over-rides the 'rules' and this may well be one of those occasions. I'm taking it as read that there is no room on the left, otherwise I'm sure you'd have left it in, but I think taking some off the bottom helps balance things out a bit more, and makes for a more pleasing shot.

Hi Neil
This is a fabulous image I really like it. I like to composition as to me it gives the impression the bird has slid across the whole frame.

Wow that is impressive! Super details and pose. Regarding composition, I can see the merit of the composition as it is but having said that I would have been tempted to reconstruct the image adding canvas to make the bird a little lower and further back to the right - just to see if it did look better. (You could for example cut and past some of the scenery from the RHS to the LHS after increasing the crop/adding canvas.)

You did a great job with your exposure and you have wonderful details in your subject. Love the action. It's unfortunate that this is clipped. That's why we keep on going out...to do even better next time the action happens.

Hi Neil, excellent sharp detail, and love the show of those large talons. Comp wise, to even things up without adding canvas on the LHS, would be to crop away from the RHS.

awesome shot Neil.
great detail especially the beak and talons. That is one determined looking bird.
Assuming there is nothing you can add on the left I would crop a bit from the bottom, maybe 10%

I like everything except the comp that for me feels too tight on the left hand side. The subject is very sharp as posted and has a very neat pose.

Well Neil- Bird spot on-exposure spot on- action grabbed beautifully. You know what I am going to say - so I won't bother !!!

OK I will do better next time :) but yes this fellow did slide across frame, I was ready to catch him landing and wooosh...
Not sure what Marina means about clipping? Cropping bottom not a problem but the stock type shot is better kept in proper proportion. :) For web no prob I guess.
Thanks all. John, say it anyway.... :p

Great shot and nice detail and exposure. I dont mind the comp as it looks like he has slid across the frame. If there were a bit more water splash it would have made the frame a bit better. Nice work.

Thanks David, Would have liked a nice splash too but early morning the ice was pretty solid. :(

By clipping I meant cutting on the left. For web I do agree some off of the bottom would really improve the composition.
